I’ve always wanted to run 100km…so I’m stepping up to restore sight!

I’m taking on Fred’s Big Run this August to STEP UP TO RESTORE SIGHT!

My goal is to raise funds for The Fred Hollows Foundation to continue the legacy of an Australian legend, Fred Hollows.

Because right now, 9 out of 10 people who are blind don’t need to be...

And an operation that costs as little as $25 can help restore sight to someone who is needlessly blind, and change their life forever!

Please make a donation and support my challenge to give the gift of sight.

Fred Hollows’ dream was to live in a world where no one was needlessly blind, please sponsor my challenge and let’s honour his memory together.

Thank you for your support.

Thank you

Tuesday 13th Aug
Thank you to EVERYONE!! The words are never enough. You came and ran alongside me, rode around me, cheered me along with horns and cowbells, gave me hugs full of extra energy, told me special stories, fed me watermelon, reminded me to keep eating and drinking, carried extra bits of gear, smeared me with antichafe cream, refilled my water bottles, looked the other way when I needed to pee in random public places, managed logistics, updated everyone who wanted to keep tabs on me, and wrote me the kindest, most encouraging words for when things got extra tough. You didn’t even complain when the last kilometre became a bit of a sprint to finish the 100km in under 13.5 hours 😉. On Sunday I explored a physical boundary, but has been your collective effort that has ultimately donated sight to 105 people. That blows me away!! I can’t repay any of it, but I will promise to pay it forward. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you 💜.

We’re on for tomorrow!

Saturday 10th Aug
The cold I’ve had all week is almost gone and the weather looks perfect 😃!! I’m keen to see what tomorrow brings and how it changes me. Hopefully I’ll still have a smile at the end 😉. Thanks again to everyone who has donated money to Fred’s Big Run, who is coming along to support, run alongside or just cheer me on tomorrow or who has otherwise sent messages of support and encouragement. Undertaking this kind of mental and physical challenge is not possible without you and I’ve spent a quiet afternoon reflecting on how grateful I am to have you in my life 💜. Stay safe, enjoy the gift of your sight, and hopefully I’ll see you out there!! 🏃‍♀️

Less than 1 week to go!

Tuesday 6th Aug
Thanks to everyone for their generosity and support. You have collectively restored sight to 40 people - I think that's amazing! It's now time for me to do my bit... in less than 1 WEEK!! That's SUNDAY 11 AUGUST. For those who want to keep tabs on me, come join me for a VERY SLOW jog, or just point and laugh as I stumble along you can find where I'm at in 3 ways... 1) Follow my inReach map (I'll have it set to ping every 10 minutes). On the day it will be active here: share.garmin.com/FredsRun 2) Ask to be added to my What's App group and send me your number if I don't have it. I will share my live location on the day. 3) Ping Em Panietz for updates, but be aware she may well be flat out driving, running/riding alongside me, giving me pep talks and doing everything she can to keep me going so you may be ignored. You can message me too but I may be distracted or too tired to notice. I expect to start off doing 7-8km/hour and anticipate this will slow down the longer I'm out there.

Woah - thank you, and a tentative route for my run!

Tuesday 18th Jun
You guys are amazing - you’ve already donated sight to six people! Thank you 🙏!! I’ve been working on a route for my run and so far it’s looking something like this. I’ll go out and recce some of the bits I’ve not yet seen to make sure they’re appropriate. So long as I don’t get sick, I’ll be aiming for either the 10th or 11th of August! Stay tuned 😃!!
